Our neighbours to the west went to the polls Monday, and returned the Alberta Progressive Conservatives to another majority government.

Premier Alison Redford and her party were re-elected, after an intense election campaign that saw a major challenge from Danielle Smith and the right-wing Wildrose Party.

The win continues one of the longest reigns by a provincial government in Canada, as the Tories have been in power in Alberta since 1971. Redford also becomes the first elected female premier in the province's history. She became leader of the PCs last year but had yet to lead her party in an election.
