The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 56 in Swift Current is continuing their upgrades to the facility.

This year's improvements for the branch is to replace the 41-year-old flooring inside of the building with new magnolia flooring.

"They're (our members) are pretty excited about it, because a lot of our membership have been around for a lot of years," President of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 56 David Boucher said. "I, myself have only been in the branch for 14-years, but the other members who were born and raised here in Swift Current think it's about time we've done this work."

This is the second set of renovations the Legion has undergone in the past 12 months. In the summertime, they put in new walls, added insulation, added a new suspended ceiling and new lighting.

"The Legion has seen a little bit (more members since the renovations), not a great influx of new members," he told Swift Current Online. "The hall is rented to the public here in Swift Current for many functions over the years and that's where we get some of our new memberships from as well."

The cost for the new flooring is north of $60,000, but the branch did qualify for a grant from the government for approximately $25,000. They also received donations from the public and branch members as well.

With the floor expected to be completed by February 22, the next project for the Legion would be to renovate the bathrooms in the facility.
