May long weekend is right around the corner, with many campers looking forward to getting back to nature and to their favourite camping spots.

However, it was a bit of a rocky start for campers who tried using the Saskatchewan Parks' new Reserve-a-Site system when it was launched back in March.

Mary Anne Wihack, Manager of Visitor Experiences for the Saskatchewan Parks Service, said it was due to a technical issue with the service provider combined with an extreme volume of users, but was very quickly resolved, “Within a couple of hours the service providers recognized what was happening and were able to start funneling more through. The call centre was able to start accepting more calls, there was a bit of a glitch there.”

Wihack adds the new system is much more efficient compared to the old, manual way which usually took two or three months to get a response.

Despite the glitches, on the first day, Saskatchewan Parks exceeded the number of site bookings they had for all of 2011.
