With kids back in school RCMP are reminding drivers to slow down in marked school and playground zones.

Shaunavon RCMP are making their presence felt as the kids head back to class.

Last fall The Town of Shaunavon made the entire distance starting at fourth street west up fifth avenue to fifth street east a reduced speed zone.

Sargent Don McPhee of the Shaunavon RCMP Detachment said, "We're always enforcing the speed zone of course. We typically target problem areas if we get complaints about them, or like the start of school week we put an increased presence into those areas as well."

Reduced zones are 25 kilometers per hour, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week all year long and McPhee says fines for speeding in those areas start at $270 up to just under $800.

Drivers are also being reminded not to park on crosswalks in front of schools, and should come to a complete stop five meters from any school bus when the stop arm is extended and their lights are flashing.
