A successful SGI and RCMP program aimed at helping reduce the number of drunk drivers on the road is making its way to Swift Current.

'Report Impaired Drivers', or RID, has been used in a number of other Saskatchewan communities and encourages the public to call 9-1-1 if they suspect a vehicle may be driven by a person under the influence.

City RCMP Staff Sgt. Al MacDonnell says they obtain the vehicle description from the caller, and if the description matches the SGI registration data, a letter is sent to the registered owner notifying the owner that the car was driven on a certain time in an erratic manner.

MacDonnell adds the program has seen success since it was first brought in.

Signage promoting the program is expected to be up in the near future.
