The RM of Swift Current council meeting on Tuesday

At Tuesday's regular council meeting for the R.M. of Swift Current saw some changes around the meeting table.

Jerry Knipfel, who has served on council in the past, and newcomer Phil Wall attended their first meeting since being elected two weeks back.

"I'm very interseted in the whole concept of municipal government," Knipfel said. "Hopefully I can contribute to a number of areas."

RM Reeve Bob Neufeld is looking forward to working with the new councillors.

"Their ratepayers have decided who should be here on council," said Neufeld. "I'm sure they will bring some good things to council."

Wall and Knipfel were both elected over incumbants Lloyd Thiessen and John Wright.

Meanwhile, rural politicians in Saskatchewan are asking the province for millions of dollars more for road work and rodent control.

The call came Wednesday at the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities mid-term convention in Regina.

SARM president David Marit says RMs need $47 million for roads next year -- double this year's amount.

Marit is also asking the province for vastly higher sums of money for rat and beaver control in 2012.
