Starting this morning motorists in the downtown core of the City will one less road to travel on, as contruction continues on the underground utility installation.

Cheadle Street East from Central Avenue North to 1st Avenue Northeast will be closed to all motor vehicle traffic.

The City anticipates the closure to last approximately two weeks as contruction crews continue to transfer overhead electrical lines to underground infrastructure.

"This is the same project that caused a closure at Chaplin Street in late April," Mitch Minken, Swift Current's General Manager of Infrastructure & Operations said. "Just like the Chaplin Street phase of the project, we do not anticipate this closure taking any longer than two weeks."

The construction will also result in the closure of sidewalks and back alley entrances along Cheadle Street East between 1st Avenue Northeast and Central Avenue North.

As a result of the road closure, a traffic detour will be available, directing eastbound traffic on Cheadle Street East northbound on Central Avenue North.

The City of Swift Current thanks residents and motorists in advance for their patience and cooperation.
