Rodeo 101 is this week, and seven hundred students from the Chinook School Division will be learning about rodeo as CCA Rodeo Finals Week fires up.

Lenora Bells is the event development coordinator for the Swift Current Ag & Ex, and the product marketing manager with the CCA committee.

She said that Rodeo 101 is about teaching kids about the events, animals and how rodeo works.

'We talk about the safety of the animals and how we are very diligent about looking after them," she said. "There are seven events that go on in a rodeo and sometimes not everyone knows what those events are all about and what the judges are looking for, like what the difference between a bucking competition and a difference that comes with a timed event. We talk about all the little details that go along with rodeo and what to look for in the sport and how to encourage not the cowboys and cowgirls that compete."

Students from Grades 1 to 12 will get a chance to meet the cowboys and cowgirls and watch the novice and junior rodeo.

Bells added that they hope to inspire a few kids to get involved with rodeo.
