The town of Maple Creek held a byelection yesterday to determine who would fill a vacant seat on council, and it couldn't have been much closer.

Jill Roy won with 174 votes, while Shelley Drever finished in second with 172.

Tina Cresswell was the only other candidate and had 47 votes.

Each candidate did a tally of their own to verify the count, and there were no issue with the tallying.

The seat on council was vacated by Michelle McKenzie who beat Cresswell in a byelection to replace former mayor Barry Rudd.

Roy was declared the winner this morning, and will be sworn in at the next council meeting on November 27.
