Saturday morning people came together to walk, run, or stroll for the annual Southwest Run for Shelter.

The run, which is in its fourth year, raised around $4,000 for Dorie's House to help with the re-opening of the youth shelter.

Kayla Myers, a Southwest Run for Shelter committee member, said that they were happy with how the event turned out.

"We had great weather and a little breeze for the runners, and that helped keep them cool," she said. "I think any amount counts towards the re-opening of Dorie's House and going towards the funding of Dorie's House, so we appreciate everybody's donations."

Myers said they chose to hold a run to fundraise because they wanted to do something different.

"Marathons are quite common around in Saskatchewan and across and Canada," she said. "When you're looking for different fundraiser ideas it was 'Let's do a run - let's do something different for Swift Current', and so that's how it started four years ago."

The run featured a 5k, 10k, and a half and full marathon for the 31 participants in the run to compete in.

Charmaine Westbury, director at Dorie's House, said the support they received was amazing.

"The fact that we still don't have our doors open and that the community is still helping us to make that happen is truly awesome," she said. "That money is crucial, and it's amazing, and we can't thank people enough for the support."

Westbury added that though it might not be enough money raised to open the doors back up, every little bit counts.
