Last year's flooding in Swift Current

Frustrated by the intense chlorine smell in your water?

The City of Swift Current says it's caused by high Ammonia levels in water from the spring runoff mixing with water treatment chemicals.

The good news is it should be a quick one.

Kevin Wingert is the Senior Watershed Engineer for the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority in Swift Current.

“This year with the warm weather it is coming off rather quickly, but again we don't have the snow pack that we did last year, so we are getting fairly high peaks for the snow that's out there but compared to last year it's almost insignificant”

The city blames an early runoff combining with high ice levels in the creek for creating the poor water quality they've had to treat.

“Those higher flows over the next couple days," Wingert said.  "I don't thinks there's alot of snow left in the basin so I don't think we'll expect a very long duration of this run off”

Wingert estimates we're only seeing a tenth of last year's peak levels.
