RM Council meeting from November 2011

The Rural Municipality of Swift Current hopes their objection to the city's plan to annex some commercial land doesn't hurt the improving relationship between the two municipalities.

“If the City of Swift Current finds this to be an unacceptable compensation we are willing to allow the Saskatchewan Municipal board to provide resolution that's all it said.” said Reeve Robert Neufeld countering Mayor Jerrod Schafer's claim that a letter from the RM in January indicated they wouldn't be objecting to the annexation, “I don't know where they assumed that we wouldn't accept.”

He would also like to see any annexation put on hold until a SARM working committee can finish creating guidelines for similar situations, “SARM created working committee, that includes SARM, SUMA, and the Ministry of Municipal Affairs with a mandate to create guidelines to be followed in case applications by urban municipalities to access rural municipal land that should take precedence to all annexation to all lands in the province until body has had a chance.”

Neufeld says they are just doing their job standing up for ratepayers who expressed to them they didn't want to be absorbed into the city.
