One of the biggest reasons why the Swift Current Salvation Army is able to provide healthy and nutritious food around Christmas is thanks to the generosity of Hutterite colonies around southwest Saskatchewan, and for all their support the Salvation Army showed their appreciation.

The Salvation Army held its Hutterite Appreciation Lunch which featured many sponsors help them supply a number of Hutterite colonies KFC to enjoy.

"It was a wonderful day. They brought many pounds of vegetables, chickens, turkeys, and it's just our way of giving back to them a little bit saying thank you for all the generosity they bring throughout the year," said Captain Ed Dean with the Swift Current Salvation Army. "If it wasn't for the Hutterites, we would have very little vegetables throughout the year, and fresh vegetables are important to needy families too and those are expensive."

Captain Charlotte Dean with the Swift Current Salvation Army said that having healthy food is more of a priority now more than ever.

"We consider the big push and the focus on the new Canada's food guide and just that rejuvenated intrust in healthy standards for people," she said. "We want to be able to provide as many non-process products as possible, and they are a huge part of that."

Most of the donations from the Hutterites around the holidays go into the many Christmas food hampers that the Salvation Army will be given out this holiday season.
