The Swift Current Salvation Army was at city council last night and they provided an update on their Christmas campaign.

Saturday night's teddy bear toss at the Swift Current Broncos game provided about 725 stuffed animals and roughly 435 hats and mitts for the charitable organization.

Swift Current Salvation Army Major Don Grad said the stuffed animals, hats, and mitts will be given out through a multitude of ways.

"Some of them will be delivered to places like the Meadows," he said. "Some are used on Christmas day at our Christman meal. Some of our teddy bears that are collected that we end up not using will go to the Newcomer Welcome Centre."

As of Saturday, they've raised around $51,800 from their Christmas kettles and donations and the goal is $220,000.

"If you're a number cruncher that's about 24 per cent," Grad told council. "These funds help our food bank all year long as well as our Christmas stuff."

Christmas hamper applications are slightly down as they've received 275 so far, compared to last year's 284. Grad does believe they may get a few more though.
