It's been a good start for the Salvation Army, but they still need some help gathering food for their Christmas hampers.

Major Don Grad, with the Salvation Army, said they've had a wonderful response so far, but they do still need some food items.

"We still need a general mixture," he said. "Some things that we have a particular need for is breakfast cereal, canned fruit, Kraft Dinner, and canned meat, like tuna, salmon, ham, chicken, as well as canned tomatoes - large and small cans."

Grad added that they try to produce fairly nutrition-balanced hampers, so those items will help them do that.

The registration applications for the hampers start on Monday, November 27 at the Salvation Army, and the application will be accepted from 10 a.m to 12 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.

Grad said people can always donate, as the stuff they don't use for the hampers will help for the rest of the year.

"Any of the donations that come in later December, and we don't happen to use them in our Christmas hampers they will become part of our food bank," he said. "That food will be used to provide food hampers and general assistance throughout the year."

Grad noted people could drop off their donations at the Salvation Army.
