Saskatchewan has one of the richest dinosaur fossil deposits in all of the Canadian provinces, but it's an underdeveloped resource.

The most famous fossil is a tyrannosaurus rex found in the Frenchman River Valley. The T Rex skeleton dubbed "Scotty" was found near the town of Eastend. Also in the province, a short necked plesiosaur was found near Herschel. It was well preserved and estimated at 70 million years old. "Big Bert" is the famous crocodile from Carrot River and the Pasquia Hills area. Even the town of Kyle had a partial skeleton of a Woolly Mammoth estimated at 2 million years old.

David Silversides, who is the manager of Sask Landing Provincial Park, says that the area is still as fossil rich as Alberta. He also mentioned that a group of students from the University of Regina, led by Dr. Emily Bamforth, has started another project of digging for fossils this summer.

In Saskatchewan, some fossil-bearing layers of rock are close to the surface, leaving some dinosaur fossils exposed to the elements. The southern part of Saskatchewan was underwater 500 million years ago, as a result the fossils that they find are mostly the remains of marine organisms.

A very large skeleton was found on the south shore of Lake Diefenbaker near Herbert in the mid 90's. It was called Tylosaurus, and it's very possible that there's another one out there.
