A landmark 20-year agreement has been signed between the Provincial and Federal Governments that will see policing services in Saskatchewan continue to be provided by the RCMP.

Corrections, Public Safety and Policing Minister Yogi Huyghebaert says the agreement is a significant milestone for contract policing, saying they have policing stability from a professional police force for the next 20 years.

Huyghebaert says the current funding model where the province provides 70% of the costs will continue, but that money will be invested back into Saskatchewan in renewing aging RCMP infrastructure.

Huyghebaert says infrastructure is an ongoing issue, and the agreement allows them the flexibility and money to address RCMP infrastructure needs in Saskatchewan.
