Jonathon Potts of Tourism Saskatchewan made his presentation at the Sky Centre on Wednesday

Tourism Saskatchewan made a presentation at the 49° x 110° conference at the Sky Centre Wednesday where they discussed some of their big plans coming for the province and how it will effect Swift Current.

"Swift Current does have a great story to tell and it already is in terms of the diverse group of people that settled here and made it happen. It is also really the hub of the southwest where there are tremendous experiences for people to come and enjoy," said Executive Director of Marketing for Tourism Saskatchewan, Jonathan Potts.

Tourism Saskatchewan is trying to change the way that prospective tourists look at Saskatchewan. When surveyed, Canadians commonly described the province as "flat" and "boring."

Potts acknowledged this perception was negative and that they needed a major retooling of their materials. The new campaign will work in combination with tourism associations like Tourism Swift Current to focus on culture and stories of Saskatchewan- an experience more than just going on a trip.

It's not just localized tourism groups that should be working to draw in people, according to Potts,  but businesses and community members need to make sure their stories are known.

"That will be key, right, to tie this altogether now, and that everyone has a strategy whether it's online or whether it's any number of things, but that they all do something too. And I think that will see some huge results,"  said Pat Friesen, City Councillor and Tourism Swift Current board member.

The two new ads were based around the most positive words to describe the province:  openness, community and skies. The new ads already have 250,000 views and are available on the Tourism Saskatchewan Facebook page.
