Yesterday SaskAbilities became the second Swift Current non-profit organization this week to receive a donation from a local Halloween event.

The donation was also for $6,000, the same as Swift Current's CMHA was gifted, from the Haunted town of Lil-sur-mur, Wymark/Springfeld, Saskatchewan.

Candace Toma, the community relations coordinator with SaskAbilities Swift Current branch, said the donation was a nice surprise and they're extremely grateful to be chosen.

"I got a message from Andy with AM Delivery and of course the paintball field there and the haunted village," she said. "He indicated to me that the group of volunteers had talked and they had designated SaskAbilities Swift Current as one of two charities that would be receiving the proceeds from their haunted village this year."

Given the COVID-19 pandemic, SaskAbilities wasn't able to host their annual Ability Bowl in the springtime this year so they've had to focus on a more year-round fundraising approach.

"At the end of the day this is a wonderful gift, we weren't expecting it," she said. "In a year that is so different, every little dollar help. We absolutely welcome any community partnership, whether it's a donation of a good, service, or a financial contribution it's all very special to us."

The funds will be used for programming and services at the SaskAbilities Swift Current branch.
