Saskatchewan has gained another ally in their fight against the federally-imposed carbon tax. as P.E.I. has joined the fight.

P.E.I. said last week on Wednesday that come September 1 their climate action plan will not include a carbon tax. They now join Saskatchewan and Ontario as the three provinces fighting against the tax.

Despite having fellow provinces joining them in the fight the province is going at it alone when it comes to the reference case they submitted.

"We won't have one because it doesn't work. It doesn't reduce emissions, in no jurisdiction has a carbon tax been introduced and seen a corresponding reduction in emissions," Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe said. "We've put forward our reference case to the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal; we are looking for a favourable outcome."

Moe said he feels Saskatchewan is already doing a good job reducing emissions and that the carbon tax would be unnecessary.

"We have a significant and very important story to tell on the side of sustainability here in the province of Saskatchewan," he said. "In the way of agriculture, which is crop agriculture being carbon neutral, in addition to that we have 17 million acres of protected grasslands in this province that sequester carbon each and every year. We have a great story in manufacturing in Evraz Steel emitting five times below the industry average.

"Our energy industry is as sustainable as anywhere in the world, and we should be utilizing it across Canada and across North America as opposed to importing energy from Algeria and Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela," the 15th premier of Saskatchewan continued. "We have in our province a great story to tell in what we have done with respect to emission reductions but also what we have done with carbon sequestration in our soil, carbon capture in storage a boundary damn three and the opportunities to export this knowledge and innovation to countries all around the world so we can make an impact much larger than just an impact within our borders but an impact in countries around."

The three new allies are set to meet at the Council of the Federation in New Brunswick this week.
