A rate increase could be on the way for SaskEnergy after the crown corporation decided to apply.

The delivery service rate could see a 2.3 per cent increase, which would equate to an approximate $1.65 boost per month.

Ken From, President and CEO of SaskEnergy, says the increase is to support infrastructure growth and system safety.

"We're moving about 50 per cent more gas in our system than we did in 2009. So as you know, the province's population is expanding, its industry is expanding. Along with that expansion comes more pipelines and more maintenance and monitoring for those pipelines," he said.

The application is currently before the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel. If approved, the 2.3 per cent increase will effect November 1st, 2017.

Last year, SaskEnergy decreased the commodity rate by 14 per cent.
