CFL Bulb

For two weekends this month, SaskPower will be partnering with retailers to offer customers a rebate on energy-efficient light bulbs in exchange for incandescent bulbs.

Southwest residents could earn a $3 rebate coupon on "Energy Star" bulbs at Canadian Tire, Peavey Mart and select Co-op stores May 5th and 6th, and the following weekend, the 12th and 13th.

"Basically a CFL (compact fluorescent lamp) bulb can save about $40 on your power bill over its life time," said SaskPower Supervisor of the Demand Side Management Programs Cheryl Bechard. "CFL and LED bulbs can last from 10 to 25 times longer than a standard bulb."

"If every house hold replaced one of these old bulbs with a CFL bulb we'd save enough electricity to power over 5000 homes for a year."
