September 8th is International Literacy Day around the world.

The Government of Saskatchewan and the Deputy Premier and Education Minister Gordon Wyant are also acknowledging day to promote the importance of libraries, schools and literacy agencies.

$1.5 million in continued funding to support Saskatchewan’s literacy programs is provided by the government. That serves more than 1,200 students at twenty summer literacy camps across the province. It also funds eight family literacy and the Saskatchewan Community Literacy Fund.

They also partner with the Saskatchewan Literacy Network to support the family literacy hubs and the Saskatchewan Community Literacy fund recipients.

For the past 50 years, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization have proclaimed International Literacy Day to "promote the importance of improved literacy as the foundation for all learning."
