Swift Current Mayor Jerrod Schafer

Now that the wheels are in motion for a new long-term care facility in Swift Current, how will the City cover its share of the funding?

Premier Brad Wall suggested the new facility would cost upwards of $60 million, leaving the city to cover 20 percent of that total.

Mayor Jerrod Schafer says it's premature to predict how they will do that.

"We know what the funding model looks like in traditional financing models," says Schafer. "So, in alternative financing models, we look forward to negotiating with the Government to see what options are available in that regard, and certainly listening to our residents and having a product that everyone is excited about."

Schafer says long-term care is a priority, but he also wants to make sure residents are supportive and kept informed throughout the process.

Yesterday, Premier Wall announced that the Cypress Health Region will conduct an open process asking for expressions of interest for the construction of a new facility to replace the three we have now.
