Swift Current Mayor, Jerrod Schafer

Swift Current's Mayor is responding to a Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses (CFIB) report describing Swift Current as having the highest tax gap among Saskatchewan cities.

That's the difference between what businesses and home owners would pay.

"You can do whatever you want with figures, but the most important thing is the total dollars that are coming out of the pockets of residents and businesses", says Jerrod Schafer. "When you look at the taxes paid per $200,000 of assessment, there are only two other cities in Saskatchewan that are more affordable than Swift Current and there is nobody more affordable in residential taxes."

In a release from the city, Swift Current's municipal residental tax rate is said to be $792 per $200,000 of assessment, and the commercial tax is $3,201.

The average in Saskatchewan is $1,825 and $4,773 respectively.
