The second-annual Maple Creek Massacre demolition derby was held over the weekend, and according to Bill de Repentigny, it was a smash.

Around 12 to 13 hundred gathered to watch the crashing and slamming of the car on car action, the shattering of windshields and the overall destruction of the demolition derby.

deRepentigny, who organized the event along with his nephew talked about how the event went and what he hopes for next year.

"This year and we had a lot more local cars show up which was excellent; we are hoping next year that even more cars from local areas show up next year, from the surrounding areas like Swift Current."

The Demolition Derby featured 16 full-size cars, a mini car set that only had two cars but the fans didn't seem to care as long as they got their promised destruction.

During the intermission, they had the Thunder Tot Derby, which saw the kids have their own version of the demolition derby using their power wheel cars.

They also had the Rapid Rabbit Monster truck which was there to take people for a ride in the back of it.

The podium for the full-size car event was a family affair that saw Clayton Wheeldon from Raymond, Alberta takes first, his brother Kelly Kultgen is brother take 2nd, and their uncle Ron Kultgen take 3rd place.
