Wholesale sales witnessed another growing month for both Saskatchewan and the country.

Saskatchewan was one of two provinces which recorded the highest wholesale growth among the provinces between March and April of this year at 5.4 per cent. This reflects a total of over $2.3 billion. Manitoba managed to report an identical percentage during the spring with sales at over $1.7 billion.

On a monthly basis, Saskatchewan raked in the largest total sales in April, only behind Ontario ($31.5 billion), Quebec ($11 billion), Alberta ($6.4 billion), and British Columbia ($6.2 billion).

When comparing the province's growth from a year ago (April 2016), Saskatchewan saw considerable improvement at 13 per cent (seasonally adjusted). From April 2016 to April 2017, the province demonstrated the second highest percentage growth among the provinces. The national average sat at 10.3 per cent during the same time frame.

It is definitely a welcoming sight for the economy as the industry has began to witness a surge at the halfway point of 2017. The prairie province managed to report growth for a second month in a row.

“The sustained growth of Saskatchewan’s wholesale trade highlights continued confidence in the province’s economy,” said Jeremy Harrison, Economy Minister for the Province of Saskatchewan. “Our strong manufacturing and resource sectors are all contributing to this growth, attracting investments and new opportunities that are helping to move Saskatchewan forward.”
