SIAST and SGEU are heading back to the bargaining table today with a third-party mediator to see if they can work out a deal to avoid a strike by teachers and professional services staff at the post-secondary institution's four campuses.

SGEU said on Friday that they planned to take job action tomorrow during the first day of classes if a new deal wasn't struck over the weekend.

Discussions between SGEU's president Bob Bymoen and SIAST's associate vice president of human resources, Gary Earls, as well as Labour Relations Minister Don Morgan and Deputy Minister Mike Carr led to the contract talks starting back up.

The two sides have been without a deal for over two years.

The instructors previously rejected the college's final offer of a 5.5% wage increase over three years.
