The Saskatchewan Health Authority says they're happy with the recent provincial budget that was released.

Inside the budget for the SHA was a 3.2 per cent raise ($113 million) in funding when compared to last year bringing the grand total they will receive to $3.6 billion for the 2019-20 fiscal year.

The largest increase was on the mental health and addictions side of things, receiving an increase of about $30 million.

"We are very encouraged by the province's focus on helping us address mental health and addictions in this budget," SHA CEO Scott Livingstone said. "The funding provided in the budget that was targeted for mental health and addictions initiative is going to strengthen our support for people struggling with these issues across the province."

The SHA was also pleased to see a funding commitment from the provincial for capital infrastructure upgrades. They've allocated $5 million to be split between a preconstruction design of a new Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert and planning and design for a new hospital in Weyburn.

"We continue to face infrastructure challenges given the age of our facilities," Livingstone said on budget day. "These are key investments that are going to help renew some of our infrastructure."

The budget also allotted $12 million for a new 72-bed long-term care facility to be constructed in Meadow Lake with construction slated to begin in the spring of 2020.
