At the recent SUMA meetings, Shaunavon Mayor, Grant Greenslade, and other members of Shaunavon Town Council met with Minister Responsible for Rural and Remote Health, Greg Ottenbreit, and MLA, Doug Steele, regarding ambulance service in Shaunavon and area .

Since October there has been minimal ambulance service between seven p.m. and seven a.m. The Cypress Health Region says recruiting issues are one of the main reasons the overnight coverage has been inconsistent. At the moment, ambulance coverage in Shaunavon is provided, if needed, from the surrounding communities of Eastend, Frontier and Gull Lake.

Mayor Greenslade says the Minister was sympathetic, but did not offer any resolve, but is working towards finding a solution.

Greenslade says, "So, on a go forward basis we're gonna continue pressuring the Minister and the Health Region to solve this. Ultimately, it's the Health Region's problem, not the Town of Shaunavon. We're here to facilitate..to find a solution."

Mayor Greenslade added that the Town is looking for the government to push the Cypress Health Region to provide immediate staffing of ambulance services without interruptions in service, and they will be in touch with Minister Ottenbreit in the coming weeks.
