The Shaunavon Long Term Care Facility is currently under an outbreak status.

Doctor David Torr, Medical Health Officer with The Saskatchewan Health Authority, says the respiratory virus, while causing cold like symptoms in the general public, can pose serious complications to persons living in Long Term Care, therefore no visitation guidelines are in place.

"We have heard reports that there is a lot of activity in the community, and so it  comes into a facility where you have individuals who are more pre-disposed, who have other different conditions, and because of their age their immunity's not as good."

Doctor Torr says once the outbreak is controlled visitation will resume.

He adds that, at this time of the year, it's important to get your flu shots and practice good hand washing to discourage the spread of viruses.
