Municipal leaders from nineteen towns in southwest Saskatchewan gathered in Assiniboia recently to discuss matters important to their communities.

Hosted by the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association, the leaders attending discussed a number of topics.

Shaunavon Mayor, Grant Greenslade, was one of the leaders who attended. He says, "I think it's important anytime the leaders of the southwest get together and discuss problems and situations they're having in their communities, and bring it forward to the organization that represents us at the provincial level."

Greenslade said that one of the things he found of interest at the round table discussions was how a great deal of work has been done with some local RM's to support Recreation and Culture facilities, which is something, he says, Shaunavon is looking to do.

Greenslade added that there was also discussion on the upcoming SUMA Convention, as well as a motion that the Town of Shaunavon is bringing forward, which is $2.00 per capita for STARS.

Representatives at the meeting also received updates on topics including cannabis legalization, vehicle for hire regulations, and multi-material recycling.
