A special presentation was made on Friday to the Shaunavon Public School.

The Community Initiatives Fund awarded $31,000 to the Shaunavon Public School to support school playground renovations this spring. Two structures will be constructed at the Public School. One for ages 3-5 years and another for ages 5-13 years.

Shaunavon Public School Principal Dale Ross says this grant moves their project along more quickly: "We started off with a budget of around $90,000, and the $30,000 contribution... for the amount of time it's taken us to raise that on our own, to have that in one fell swoop is huge, because it cuts down the amount of time that we have before we have to install the structure."

"This is the kind of project that the Community Initiatives Fund was really designed to support financially," said Cypress Hills MLA Wayne Elhard, who was on hand for the presentation. "A lot of the small communities have big ideas, but money is sometimes pretty tight, and the Provincial Government understands that by contributing to these types of projects, it helps build community pride."

The installation date is tentatively set for the first weekend in May, and will take about a week and a half to finish.
