Shaunavon Town Council has proclaimed this week as Economic Development Week.

Community and economic developers promote economic well being and quality of life for their communities by creating, retaining, and expanding businesses that facilitate growth, enhance wealth, and provide a stable tax base.

Chairman of the Shaunavon Economic Development Committee, Mike Greenlay, says that, even during a pandemic, it's rewarding to see the number of businesses in the community that have opened, relocated, and done renovations, with more opening soon.

"We got four new businesses in the last year downtown, store-front, so it speaks to the entrepreneurial spirit of our residents that they"ll step out and do that sort of thing. We've always had various programs with the Economic Development Committee, so if anybody has any interest in setting up a business, by all means give the Town a call and they"ll get you in touch with our Economic Development Office."

Greenlay added that the area's oil sector and agriculture sector, as well as the town's downtown core of businesses have remained pretty strong during the pandemic.

The Town of Shaunavon has also recognized May 9-15 as National Police Week.

They would like to thank police officers for their work to keep our communities safe.
