Gravelbourg High School is one school in the southwest running on a four-day school week

Schools in Glentworth, Mankota, Kincaid, Lafleche and Gravelbourg all have one thing in common... their school week is only four days long and they would like to keep it that way.

The schools in the five communities, who are part of the Prairie South School Division based in Moose Jaw, have been put under review by the Provincial Ministry of Education. It's not necessarily anything to worry about, it's just to make sure the shorter week and longer days is still the best thing for students.

Communications Coordinator for Prairie South, Janice Thoroughgood, says the review will include the examination of policies and procedures, surveys of student, staff and parent perceptions, analysis of student achievement and attendance and a focus group with a report to be delivered to the board of education.

"They like to review it on a regular basis just to ensure that learning is happening at the same level as it would on a five day school week. In the communities that it's in right now it seems to be popular and obviously we want to continue it. We'll just have to see what the results of the study shows," added Thoroughgood.

The review must be turned in by October of 2013. The ministry of education has approved the alternative school year arrangement until the end of June 2013.
