After an immobilizing past few days, the end is in sight for the damage caused by icy conditions.

Over the past few days, a quick shift between rainfall and freezing temperatures have put a damper of glare ice over roads in and around Swift Current, creating hazards for both those driving and walking.

When taking a look at our five-day forecast, identical conditions can be observed, but this should not be an issue of much worry, according to a weather expert.

Blaine Lowry, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, said that while conditions may look similar, the effects should be minimal compared to recent conditions.

"So through the day [today] you can expect some snow to be falling, and with that the temperature is going to warm up from what they are [yesterday], closer to the freezing mark, so in the afternoon there is a very slight chance that some of that snow can come mixed with rain, and that may lead to more slick conditions, but it's mostly going to be snow."

Lowry also said that there was a slight chance of slick conditions once again tomorrow, this time due to above freezing temperatures paired with more snow flurries which might come down as minimal amounts of rain.

Looking further into the forecast, Lowry said that there was a pattern to be seen with consistent above-freezing temperatures during the day, quickly dispersing what ice could have formed if rain does in fact fall.

Temperatures would be looking above freezing until next weekend, with an abnormally hot spell at this time of year, according to Lowry.

He also said that we will be seeing a gradual drop in temperature, rather than a quick fall.

"It looks like for next weekend, daytime highs may be back below zero, but at this point, it's not looking like a crash into the deep freeze.

Lowry said that as long as moisture on roads is able to evaporate during the above-freezing daytime highs before next weekend, the roads could be looking a lot clearer than recently.
