When the calendar turned to 2018, it met that Saskatchewan businesses would have the highest small business income threshold in Canada.

On January 1st the provincial government raised the income threshold from 500 to 600 thousand dollars.

CEO of Stock and Marsh, Elden Moberg says the increase won't lead to huge tax savings for small businesses.

“It’s a situation where if you were generating $600,000 of revenue before the increase, you're going to be in the neighbourhood of $10,000 worth of savings," he said. "Anyone who is generating less than $600,000, it doesn't change for them, the difference is for the people are generating between 500 to 600 thousand dollars in revenue."

Moberg adds that $10,000 is not a substantial amount but every little bit helps when your a small business.

CEO of the Swift Current Chamber of Commerce, Karla Wiens said that though it might not be a big tax saving, it still will help the province and Swift Current.

"Well I think the tax changes by the Saskatchewan government are going to have a positive impact on the Saskatchewan economy and the city of Swift Current," she said. "For a small business operating both in the province and in the city, this improves our competitiveness by increasing the income threshold. It gives small businesses an incentive to hire more people, and invest new capital right here in the city."

Wiens adds that it's a very positive move anytime there is a decrease in taxes for the business community.
