The Shaunavon Fire Department is part of a free Safe Program called "Smoke Alarms for Every Family" and can assist with upgrading and checking residents' current smoke detectors.

Shaunavon Fire Chief, Merrick Goldstein, says it's an important issue, as many people don't realize that smoke detectors should be replaced if they are over ten years old. He explains why they do this Program, saying "Just to keep everybody in the town safe with current and working smoke detectors."

There are a limited number of smoke detectors available to claim, and the Shaunavon Fire Department will install the new alarm and check any others you have in your home. Each family is eligible for one smoke detector under the Program.
