Last September the R.M. of Waverly was hit hard by wildfires, and now it looks as though it wouldn't take much for a spark to set things ablaze once more.

The R.M. hasn't enacted a fire ban yet, though the province has one on all Crown land south of the Churchill River.

Wendy Allingham, the assistant administrator for the R.M., said if they don't get a significant amount of moisture she could see a motion being put through for a fire ban at their next meeting next month.

"We've had more rain than we did all of last year already, but we're definitely in need of more now," she said, adding that they're at a "high risk" for a wildfire.

Allingham said the winter didn't help the moisture, as it was so cold and dry, without snow cover, it dried the soil out extensively.

Allingham added even though they don't have a fire ban they're asking rate payers to "use their common sense and discretion when doing any burns or thinking about having a bonfire."

Safe to say, some rain definitely wouldn't dampen any spirits in the R.M.
