A diverse mosaic of cultures were represented at the second annual Multicultural Family Fun Day in Swift Current on Saturday.

The event featured a cricket match, a barbecue, fun games and activities for people of all ages.

The Southwest Newcomer Welcome Center held the event to have the different cultures of Swift Current get together for a fun afternoon with a variety of activities. This included many fun games, face painting, a bouncy castle, and a cricket match but it is also a nice way to end off the summer.

The main highlight of the event was the cricket tournament. There was doubt at first that there wouldn't be enough people to make up two teams to play, but by the time the match rolled around there were four teams with 11 people per-team.

Executive Director of the Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre Icasiana De Gala reflected on what this event meant to her.

"It's for having fun, that's the purpose because we want families and children to have fun. Also, it's to bring the community. Summer's such a great time to bring the community together," she added. “It's also nice to have games being played and be a child and have fun."

The Southwest Newcomer Welcome Center are hoping that with the turnout there will be discussions about building a cricket course in the near future.
