Many televisions across Canada will show nothing but snow unless they are prepared for Digital TV.

Wednesday was a big day for television broadcasters in Canada, as it was the switchover date from analogue signals to digital.

The switch was mandated by the CRTC for TV stations broadcasting out of selected markets, including those from provincial capitals and with coverage areas of 300,000 viewers or more, with others doing so voluntarily. Many receiving signals from antennas were asked to upgrade their TV sets, purchase a digital converter box, or subscribe to cable or satellite to continue watching local TV.

But viewers in the southwest are not affected by the switch, and don't have to do anything to continue watching TV with an antenna. Wade Moffatt, Vice President and General Manager of CTV Saskatchewan, says their CTV Regina repeater transmitters in Swift Current and in the Maple Creek area will remain on analogue.

CTV Regina switched their main transmitter in the Queen City to digital on Tuesday night.

The CBC is only switching its Regina TV transmitter to digital, and all repeater transmitters in the province, including the one in Swift Current, will remain on analogue.
