Vehicle thefts has been something of a trend over the past several weeks in Swift Current.

SGI has had four claims of stolen vehicles over June and July within 25 kilometres of Swift Current, but just 10 in the area from June 17, 2017 to yesterday.

SGI stats for a province-wide three-year span from 2014-16 show 91 per cent of vehicles are recovered, but 51 per cent are deemed a total loss.

Over that duration pick-up trucks were by far the most frequently stolen, and the average age of stolen vehicles was 10.5 years.

SGI does say slightly more vehicles are stolen during summer and fall than in winter and spring, but that thieves will go after any make, model, or age or vehicle, any time of year.

Recently around Swift Current (including beyond the 25-kilometre radius SGI has stats for) we've seen a 1971 Dodge Dart allegedly stolen and recovered (in apparently decent condition) along with a trailer, as well as a 2016 Honda CR-V, a Ford F-250, a Ford F-150 (since recovered), a camper, and a couple motorcycles within a week.
