Over the weekend hundreds of people packed into the Lt. Colonel Clifton Centre for a massive book and magazine sale.

The sale, which was hosted by the Swift Current Branch Library, was the first of its kind in 10 years.

Andrea McCrimmon, the manager of the Swift Current Branch Library, said that people were asking for it, so they decided to make it happen.

The book sale featured books of all genres, magazines, and even some DVDs and CDs.

McCrimmon said the book sale was a way to raise money for library programs and buy new books for the library.

"We have lots of great programs at the library for people of all ages," she said. "We have literacy programs for young children up to teenagers. We do technology programming for all ages of people from kids up to seniors, and we have lots of senior’s programs as well."

She added that the thousands and thousands of books that were being sold were donated to the library, or were outdated and unused books in the library.

McCrimmon said that they had hundreds of people stop by to check out what they were selling.

"Our attendance this year was pretty overwhelming, people were lined up to pay, and we ran out of baskets, which we weren't expecting."

McCrimmon added that sold about 75 per cent of the books and that she is expecting to be doing the sale next year, considering the success they had this year.

For every dollar that the book sale raised for the Swift Current Branch Library, Scotiabank matched it.
