The City of Swift Current has officially entered into an agreement to secure a piece of land for future developments.

The land which is approximately .5 acres is located in between Regier Honda and the Swift Current Creek and was donated to the city by Team Regier Properties Ltd.

"We're very thankful for the donation and thankful to be working with the Regier family to ultimately get to a really good end to this process," Swift Current Mayor Denis Perrault said Tuesday afternoon.

Initial talks between Team Regier Properties Ltd. and the city started a few years, with the city looking to stabilize the bank and lengthen the Chinook Pathway through the land.

"It's in an area that's been slumping for a number of years," General Manager of Community Services with the City of Swift Current Dean Robson said. "We approached Regier and said we'd sure like to stabilize this bank, but it's your property and we would entertain in the future a recreational trail here."

Since the proposed agreement has been in place the city has circulated their idea with a number of agencies for review, with all having no objections.

Although the Saskatchewan Water Security Agency approved the proposal, they noted they have no concerns as long as there weren't any commercial or residential developments on the land. They also suggested a geotechnical study be completed prior to the land being developed into the Chinook Pathway.

The hope from the city's standpoint is to do some more in-depth studies over the next year to stabilize the bank.
