The Swift Current Salvation Army's Christmas Campaign received some help from a Swift Current-based club yesterday afternoon.

The Eliminator Car Club presented the Salvation Army with a cheque for $1,250 towards this year's campaign that has a goal to raise $215,000.

Eliminator Car Club President Nathan Seibel said the 25-member club decided instead of doing a gift exchange they would help out a local charity.

"It felt good (to make the donation)," he said. "We usually give them a food bank donation in the summertime when we have our annual car show - so it felt good to give money at the holiday season when it might be needed in lieu of, the club usually does a gift exchange amongst ourselves so we decided this year instead of doing the gift exchange we'd each take that $50 and donate to them."

The idea came from Monday night's meeting, and with Salvation Army week proclaimed in the city, Seibel said it was a pretty unanimous choice.

"We decided to donate money (at the meeting)," he said. "We didn't quite know who to donate to though... then someone had suggested the Salvation Army and we thought that was a good one."

Currently the Salvation Army has raised $70,993 for this campaign and today is the final day to submit a Christmas hamper application.
