At City Council on Monday night, students from Swift Current Composite High School were in attendance to showcase a particular club which generated interest amongst Council.

The school's business club gave a power point presentation on their accomplishments and experiences - a presentation given similarly in front of the Chinook School Board on December 12th, 2016.

Cindy Lowe, a Business Education teacher at the high school and Vice-President of the Saskatchewan Business Teachers Association, started the club - an act of volunteerism Mayor Denis Perrault says he would like to showcase more frequently.

"I think a big part of our community is volunteerism and I think it's important to celebrate those people. I think it's something that makes our community truly great. I hope to reach out to more community groups, more advocates, and more volunteers to hopefully celebrate all the successes that they've had," he said.

During, as well as after the presentation, the Mayor and City Councillors voiced their commendation to the students as well with there ability to conduct themselves as young leaders in the community.

Perrault shared that before the Council meeting, the members on-hand from the Business Club were eager to engage in political and business discussion - something that gave the Mayor hope for more communication with the community moving further into his first term.

"I want to be able to have that door open so that anytime a member of our youth, business professionals, or the rest of the community wants to come in and sit and talk, I hope that I am here to do that. I know all of our council feels the same way - we're definitely going to celebrate our community," he said.

City Council shared that they wished they had a similar club available to them in high school, a thought the Chinook School Board had mentioned back in December.
