Over 700 trucks converged onto the province's capital yesterday for a rally against the federally imposed carbon tax.

The rally, featuring some people from southwestern Saskatchewan, was also in support of killing bills C-48 and C-69 which are affecting the oil and gas sectors.

Swift Current's Jerrod Peters was at the rally in Regina yesterday and he said it was good to see the agriculture and oil sector come together.

"Two different industries, for the most part, that came together and were showing support for our province and for each other too.

Peters works on his family farm about 15 miles south of Swift Current near Wymark and he said his reasoning for attending the rally held at the Queensbury Centre was to show support for the province's court challenge against the carbon tax and to support the oil and gas sector.

"Because the bills that have been introduced by the Liberal government are a direct attack on them (the province and oil and gas sector)," he said. "And an indirect attack on agriculture which I am a part of."

Peters who also hauls grain in the Swift Current area added he was surprised to see just how big the turnout for the rally got.
