A new CEO for the Swift Current & District Chamber of Commerce was announced Wednesday morning in Swift Current.

Taking over the vacant position left by Clayton Wicks, is Swift Current resident Karla Wiens.

Wiens originally moved to Swift Current as a little child and went onto graduate from the Swift Current Comprehensive High School. She then attended the University of Saskatchewan where she would receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture. She would later move back to Swift Current after marrying her high school sweetheart and raise 3 kids.

Wiens, who is currently a mortgage planner in Swift Current explained why she was attracted to the unfilled position.

"The easy answer is that I love the entrepreneurial mind, I love talking to business people, the risk taking, the constant change in the face of their business environments," Weins said. "I firmly believe that a thriving business community is essential for the rest of the community to thrive in, and Swift Current is doing a pretty good job so far."

Wiens went onto share what she believes will be her biggest challenge as the new CEO.

"My biggest challenge will be connecting with our membership and that's going to take some time, but I am eagerly looking forward to sitting down," she explained. "My goal is to meet and have a conversation with each and every one of our chamber member and try to recruit new businesses to belong to Chamber of Commerce."

Wiens said that to deal with small and big businesses in Swift Current is a dream come true for her.
