A Fire Master Plan document was the topic of discussion at the most recent meet of City Council.

In 2009 a consultant was hired to complete a plan which was reviewed and updated in 2011.

In 2015 the Saskatchewan Government proclaimed the Fire Safety Act, requiring fire departments to report on the level of service provided to citizens of the community.

Over the past year the Swift Current Fire Department has been working on the plan which considers both current and future goals as Fire Chief Denis Pilon explained to Council.

"The Fire Master Plan sets goals and standards which are accepted industry standards and are measurable. This plan allows us to look to the future and determine how best to meet the required standards of Fire Department operations and the goal of the fire department is neccessary to meet councils goal plan of twenty five by twenty five [population of 25,000 by 2025]."

Those interested in viewing the plan can do so as Chief Pilon explains.

"The Fire Master Plan requires annual reporting to City Council and the civilians of Swift Current. This is currently being done by publishing a Fire Department annual report on the city web page. This plan will be published on the city of Swift Current web page along with our annual reports."

In addition Chief Pilon says the plan is neccessary to meet councils goal plan of 25,000 by 2025.
