A Swift Current florist is getting a chance to make a mark on the Rose Bowl parade down in Pasadena, California over the holidays.

Poppy Parsons will be heading down Boxing Day to help with the flower arrangements for the City of Torrance's float for the annual event leading up to the big college football game.

Parsons expects it to be a fun new challenge.

"Beyond excited. It's a little bit of a nervous energy, just because of the unknown. I don't really know for sure what's going to happen; how it's all going to play out, but I'm very excited - any opportunity like this, in any career you have, this is over the top. It's pretty amazing."

It's Torrance's 64th year in the New Year's Day parade, which is part of the celebrations around the annual college football game.

"I've never worked in a 70,000-square-foot warehouse with 10 semis of flowers before," Parsons said. "I'm crazy excited just to see that, and there's a team that's going to be there leading up to it, getting it all setup and staged in our own individual areas. We're going to be working on 13 floats in that warehouse, and I'll have my area and my float that I'll be focused on. It's just going to be huge and amazing."

Parsons' friend Will Gonzalez is a florist in California that's the lead designer, and Parsons is one member of an all-volunteer team that helps put it all together.

She said she's been watching the parade attentively over the last half decade.

"Kind of closely watching it the last five or six years, like really close, because I've known people that have been there," Parsons explained. "So I've been glued to the tv New Year's Day, watching because I know who worked on what floats, so watching their floats and seeing what they did and now I get to experience it in person instead of social media."
